how the puffs were made

as told by gettles on August 24th, 2022.

here was the first puff i ever made (or didn't already delete)

the first goal: turn the Solpuffs base into the pixel puffs base. the hardest part was making the eyes so damn cute, and getting that leg to get kickin pixel puffs are in a forever power stance

once I had the base. I made shading layers, which would be superimposed over each trait at the end

this helped me with consistency, and making the pixel art more "clear" with a little dimension

now, moving forward, the traits would just need to be color blocks

next goal: make every og Solpuff into a 1/1 pixel puff.

making sure to separate the layers for each trait. This took the longest portion of time: but it was also creating the entire project in an orderly fashion

the @pixelpuffss were based 100% on the traits chosen by and for the OG @solpuffss here's an example of how I took @berkinbags from 2048x2048 px to 47x47 px background comes later

Each trait I saw fit for the collection was duplicated and moved to it's respective folder:

cue -- berkin bags as an accessory, green hoodie as a top

as I kept making the 1/1s, the collection kept building itself

once all the traits were made, I moved everything to photoshop to complete ze process.

resizing the 47x47 images to 2048x2048 and adding the shading layers as a clipping mask to each trait

wasn't cute so I won't add a screenshot but it worked :)

possibly my favorite part of the whole process came next: freestyling some scenes for the puffs to reside in

I used an assisted layer to make the scenes a symmetrical reflection and just had fun

resized to 2048x2048 px to lay over the background color

Once each of the traits and layers were finished: time to build the collection It took 7+ versions to get rarity and look just right I used https://niftygenerator.xyz to test the output before hitting up my dev Here is the 1st generation I did, lots of troubleshooting :)

then my amazing dev @kingwacy complete the final mission. I made assets for the mint site he created, meanwhile building the pixel puff brand with the colors and scenes I made before THIS WAS SO FUN FOR ME

wacy was a fantastic dev. We spit out 5+ generations of the puffs, adjusting rarity as needed, and then I went through and hand picked the uglies and swapped them with cuter ones from other generations by swapping the metadata.

We minted the 49 one of ones first, so that I could send them to the OG @solpuffss, making their pixel puffs the rarest in the collection

The pixel puffs existed in json&jpeg until we got em to them to the blockchain! after a successful mint out, 777 pixel puffs are now here to stay forever. Our beautiful @solpuffss family was expanded, and a new community was born.

I absolutely adore what has come from this experience.

I love the puffs & pixel puffs & I love that I am in a space that supports experimentation and creativity this community is so special to me.
